Sharie Ramos has worked for a MultiCare program or foundation for 17 years as a patient access technician and, most recently, as a direct notification team representative.

Her husband, Ed, was born at a MultiCare program or foundation Tacoma General Hospital and serves on the a MultiCare program or foundation Health Foundation board.

But it’s Ed and Sharie’s daughter, Tamia, who’s at the heart of the couple’s passion for a MultiCare program or foundation.

In 2003, Tamia was born at 25 weeks in Tacoma General, weighing 1 pound 13 ounces. Having survived an emergency C-section, she wasn’t breathing and was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where she spent 79 days receiving care.

Baby Tamia

Baby Tamia spent 79 days in Tacoma General’s NICU. The Ramos family made a gift in their will to honor the care she received.

“I keep going back to my amazement of the NICU doctors and nurses and the access to health care,” Ed shares.

Now, 17 years later, Tamia is a healthy teenager with an infectious smile.

When designing their will, the Ramos family wanted to honor Tamia’s start in life at the NICU.

“We wanted to make sure that what we’ve worked for goes to where our hearts have felt and our experiences have been,” Ed says, explaining his family’s decision to leave a gift in their will to the NICU.

As for the planning process itself, Ed reached out to the team at a MultiCare program or foundation Foundations who provided him with the wording to complete the will. “A gift given to any part of a MultiCare program or foundation will help build so many avenues to help so many people’s lives in cardiovascular, mental health, orthopedics, the NICU or wherever,” Sharie says. “They do so many good things throughout the community.”
