A family member's hospital stay inspires generosity

Robert Woolery and Frances Wotton

Robert Woolery and Frances Wotton accompanied by their mother and their sister Donna.

Robert Woolery was "no make-believe hero." In fact, it's his journey that inspired his sister Frances Wotton to give back.

Robert was diagnosed with polio when he was 7 years old. He was then admitted to an iron lung in Seattle Children's Orthopedic Hospital.

Once a week, Robert's family would travel by bus from Lakeview to Seattle to visit him. However, due to the infectious nature of polio, his family members were unable to enter his hospital room. Instead, they caught up with one another through his hospital window.

During his seven-year battle with polio, Robert persevered, never giving up hope. He went on to become a successful clock repairman on South Tacoma Way. He touched the lives of local business owners, employees and customers, while caring for his family and friends.

Frances witnessed the importance of local children's hospitals throughout Robert's healing journey. In honor of her brother, Frances made an estate gift to the Mary Bridge Uncompensated Care Fund. Her generosity will help provide vital care to children in our community, regardless of their family's ability to pay.

Making a legacy gift is a wonderful way to support a cause that's close to your heart and impact the well-being of others for generations to come.

Just like Frances, you can make a difference through your will, trust, retirement plan or other legacy gift.
